Adult Learn to Swim Programme (16Yrs+)

Adult Learn to Swim - Beginner

This is the first level of our Adult Learn to Swim Pathway. 


Minimum competency required for entry into this Level;

  1. No previous swimming ability is required.

Adult Learn to Swim - Improver

This is the second level of our Adult Learn to Swim Pathway. 


Minimum competency required for entry into this Level;

  1. Demonstrate floatation on the front without a buoyancy aid.
  2. Demonstrate floatation on the back without a buoyancy aid.
  3. Demonstrate regaining feet from on back.
  4. Demonstrate regaining feet from on front.
  5. Demonstrate a push and glide on front.
  6. Demonstrate a push and glide on back.
  7. Demonstrate Breaststroke Leg Kick.
  8. Kick on the front without a float for 10 metres.
  9. Kick on the back without a float for 10 metres.
  10. Swim a minimum of 10 metres, consistently demonstrating Front crawl.
  11. Swim a minimum of 10 metres, consistently demonstrating Backcrawl.
  12. Demonstrate a sculling action.
  13. Demonstrate repetitive bobbing.

Adult Learn to Swim - Advanced

This is the third level of our Adult Learn to Swim Pathway. 


Minimum competency required for entry into this Level;

  1. Demonstrate a push and glide with a leg kick for 5 metres holding a streamlined position.
  2. Kick on the front for a minimum of 15 metres.
  3. Kick on the back for a minimum of 15 metres.
  4. Head-first surface dive to collect objects on the bottom of the pool (minimum depth 1.2 metres).
  5. Swim 25 metres Frontcrawl consistently, maintaining correct technique.
  6. Swim 25 metres Backcrawl consistently, maintaining correct technique.
  7. Demonstrate Breaststroke with simultaneous leg and simultaneous arm action.
  8. Demonstrate basic Butterfly technique.
  9. Tread water for 30 seconds, waving one hand above the head to attract attention.
  10. Scull for 10 metres.
